AWS A5.1 E7028 Welding Rods

Welding electorde AWS A5.1 E7028 is a low-hydrogen-potassium-iron-powder coated carbon steel electrode. The iron powder in the coating increases the deposited rate up to 180%. It has very good usability that enables it to have stable arc, low-spatter, removal of slag is easy and performs all-position welding. The deposited metal has good mechanical properties that offer very good low temperature toughness.

Application

AWS A5.1 E7028 is applied in flat and flat fillet welding in structures made of carbon steel and low alloy steel such as 16Mn, 09Mn2Si and A, B, D, E steels used in shipbuilding.

Notes:

1. The electrode must be preheated at the temperature of 350°C for 1 hour. Preheat the rod whenever it is used.

2. The impurities such as rust, oil stains and moisture must be cleared off of the work piece.

3. Short arc is required to perform welding. Narrow weld path is preferred.

Storage and baking of E7028 Welding Electrode

Being a low hydrogen electrode, E7016 requires baking/ drying before use. The recommended drying or baking temperature for E7028 rod as per AWS A5.1, Table 1.3 is 500- 800°F (260- 425°C) for 1- 2 hours.

Baked or dried electrode shall be kept in portable holding oven at a temperature of 50- 250°F (30- 140°C) during use. Unused electrodes shall be returned back to stationary holding ovens.
