1. Description & Applications

ER308LSi is an ultra-low carbon stainless steel solid welding wire designed for Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG/GMAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG/GTAW).

  • High Silicon Content (Si 0.65-1.00%): Improves puddle fluidity, arc stability, and wetting action, resulting in smooth weld bead appearance with minimal spatter.
  • Extra Low Carbon (C ≤ 0.03%): Reduces the risk of intergranular carbide precipitation, offering superior resistance to intergranular corrosion.
  • Key Applications:
    • Welding 18Cr-8Ni stainless steels such as AISI 304, 304L, 301, 302, 308, and 308L.
    • Food and beverage processing equipment, pharmaceutical machinery, chemical storage tanks, pressure vessels, and architectural fabrication.

2. Classification & International Standards

  • AWS A5.9 / ASME SFA-5.9: ER308LSi
  • EN ISO 14343-A: G 19 9 L Si / W 19 9 L Si
  • GB/T 17854: H03Cr19Ni10Si1

5. Usage Notes

  1. Pre-weld cleaning: thoroughly remove rust, moisture, oil, and dirt from the welding area; use a stainless-steel dedicated wire brush.
  2. Interpass temperature: recommended ≤150°C.
  3. Wind protection: when welding outdoors with wind speed >1.5 m/s, use wind shielding to prevent porosity.
  4. Arc length: short arc, spray arc, or pulsed arc recommended; pulsed arc preferred.
  5. Polarity: MIG uses DC+ (electrode positive)
