1. Description
ER316Ti is a titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel solid welding consumable containing molybdenum. The addition of titanium forms stable titanium carbides, preventing chromium carbide precipitation at grain boundaries during welding or elevated temperature service. This eliminates susceptibility to intergranular corrosion (weld decay) in aggressive environments.
Key Applications:
- Base Metals: Specifically developed for welding titanium-stabilized Mo-bearing stainless steels such as AISI 316Ti (1.4571), 316Cb (1.4580), and matching cast grades. Also suitable for unstabilized 316 and 316L.
- Operating Temperature: Operating service range from -110°C to +400°C (scaling resistant up to ~800°C).
- Industries: Chemical processing equipment, textile processing, paper and pulp mills, marine structures, power generation, and equipment handling organic/inorganic acids or chloride solutions.
2. Classification & International Standards
- AWS A5.9 / ASME SFA 5.9 ER316Ti (Note: AWS A5.9 typically classifies niobium-stabilized equivalent as ER318, while ER316Ti is designated under ISO specifications)
3. Chemical Composition of Weld Metal (wt %)
| Element | Carbon (C) | Silicon (Si) | Manganese (Mn) | Chromium (Cr) | Nickel (Ni) | Molybdenum (Mo) | Titanium (Ti) | Niobium (Nb) | Phosphorus (P) | Sulfur (S) | Copper (Cu) |

4. Mechanical Properties of All-Weld Metal
| Property | Typical Value (ER318 reference) |
|---|---|
| Yield Strength Rp0.2 | approx. 440-460 MPa |
| Tensile Strength Rm | approx. 600-615 MPa |
| Elongation A | approx. 35-42% |
| Impact Energy (20°C) | approx. 70-100 J |
5. Storage & Handling Notes
- Store wire in a dry environment; use promptly after opening or reseal properly.
- Control heat input (recommended ≤1.5 kJ/mm) and interpass temperature (recommended ≤150°C) to maintain corrosion resistance.
- Post-weld heat treatment is generally not required.
